How it works

Practice the way the exam actually tests you

Pick a mode, answer one question at a time, and learn the reasoning behind every choice — the part that makes it stick.

1

Choose your focus

A quick 10-question mix, a single chapter, or one of the four FINRA exam functions when you want to drill a weak area.

2

Answer & learn instantly

See right away whether you were correct, with a plain-English explanation of why the answer is what it is — and why the traps are wrong.

3

See where you stand

A score breakdown by exam function shows exactly which areas need another pass before test day.

Adaptive practice

A spaced-repetition engine keeps bringing back the questions you miss and eases off the ones you've mastered — so your time goes where it counts.

Timed exam simulator

A full 75-question mock under the real 1-hour-45 clock, weighted like the actual SIE, with a scored pass/fail report and a full answer review.

Progress tracking

See your accuracy and mastery by exam function, spot your weak areas, and pick up where you left off — saved on your device, synced if you sign in.

Explanations that teach

Every question carries a rationale written to clear up the exact confusion the SIE likes to test — not a one-line answer key.

⚖︎

Reviewed for accuracy

Each question and its answer was independently checked against the source material before it went online. Accuracy is the whole point.

Free to use

Practice, the mock exam, and progress tracking are all free. No paywall to start — leave your email only if you want more.

SIE basics

What to know about the exam

What is the SIE exam?

The Securities Industry Essentials (SIE) exam is FINRA's introductory, foundation-level qualification. It tests basic knowledge of the securities industry: terminology, products and their risks, market structure, regulators, and prohibited practices.

How is the SIE structured?

The SIE has 75 scored multiple-choice questions, each with four answer choices. Five additional unscored pretest questions are mixed in (80 total). You get 1 hour and 45 minutes, and there's no penalty for guessing — so answer every question.

What score do I need to pass?

You need a 70% or higher to pass. A passing result is valid for four years.

How are the questions weighted?

The 75 scored questions span four content areas, called Functions: Knowledge of Capital Markets (16%), Understanding Products and Their Risks (44%), Understanding Trading, Customer Accounts and Prohibited Activities (31%), and Overview of the Regulatory Framework (9%). The practice quiz follows the same weighting.

Do I need a job at a firm to take it?

No. The SIE is open to anyone 18 or older — including students and career-changers. You don't need to be associated with a broker-dealer. Note that passing the SIE alone doesn't register you with FINRA; a representative-level exam is also required.
